How far away can you read a Vestaboard Bit?
Each character unit on Vestaboard is called a Bit. The full Bit module measures 2.68 inches tall × 1.43 inches wide. The printed character inside each Bit (the letter, number, symbol, or color you actually read) is 1.04 inches tall × 0.82 inches wide. Vestaboard uses the same Bit on both the Flagship and Note, so readability distance is identical across both displays.

How far away can you read it?
Vestaboard's Bits are readable from across most rooms. Using the industry-standard signage readability formula (approximately 1 inch of character height per 10 feet of comfortable viewing distance), here's what to expect:
- 10–15 feet (ideal viewing range): Characters are crisp and effortless to read. This covers most living rooms, home offices, restaurant counters, and lobby walls.
- Up to 30 feet (still clearly legible): Conference rooms, open-plan offices, retail floors, and larger common areas fall comfortably in this range.
- Up to 50 feet (15 m) (maximum visibility): In good lighting with high-contrast Bits (such as white characters on a black Vestaboard, or using color Bits), characters remain legible at this distance, making Vestaboard an effective ambient display even in larger commercial spaces.
What affects readability?
A few factors influence how well the Bits read at a given distance:
- Color and contrast: White or bright color Bits on a black Vestaboard are the most legible at distance.
- Lighting: Well-lit rooms extend comfortable viewing distance. Dimly lit spaces reduce it slightly.
- Viewing angle: Bits read best when viewed straight-on. Vestaboard performs well at wide angles, but extreme side angles reduce clarity.
Each Bit is also modular. If a Bit ever needs to be replaced, you can swap it by hand without any tools.
