Some networks can include security measures that prevent new devices from accessing the internet, even when physically connected. Your network may be blocking your Vestaboard because it hasn't been added to the approved devices list, doesn't allow the required connection port, or has incompatible speed settings.
These are common configuration issues that can be resolved with a few adjustments. If you're experiencing Ethernet connectivity issues, work through this troubleshooting checklist:
1. Physical Connection Check ✓
-
Look at your Vestaboard's internal RJ-45 Ethernet jack for green and amber lights
-
If no lights are visible, verify your Ethernet cable connection
2. MAC Address Whitelisting ✓
- Add your Vestaboard's MAC addresses to the network's allowed devices list
- Find MAC addresses in the mobile app: Settings > Advanced Settings
3. Port and Domain Access ✓
-
Ensure port 443 is open for outbound connections
-
Domain platform.vestaboard.com is whitelisted in firewall/content filtering
4. Ethernet Port Speed Settings ✓
-
Set network port to fixed speed (10 Mbps or 100 Mbps)
-
Disable auto-negotiation
Getting IT Support
If you need your IT team's help to configure network settings, use this email template to request the necessary configurations:
Hi [IT Team/Network Admin],
I need to connect a Vestaboard device to our corporate network via Ethernet. Could you please help configure the following network requirements?
Device Information:
Device: Vestaboard
MAC Addresses: [paste your MAC addresses from the app here]
Required Network Configuration:
Whitelist MAC Address: Please add the MAC addresses above to our network's allowed devices list
Firewall/Port Access: Open outbound port 443 and whitelist the domain platform.vestaboard.com
Port Speed: Set the Ethernet port to a fixed speed of either 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps (disable auto-negotiation)
Technical Details:
The device connects to platform.vestaboard.com via HTTPS (port 443) for cloud functionality
Fixed port speeds (10/100 Mbps) work better than auto-negotiation for this device
This is similar to configuring network access for other IoT devices like smart displays
Please confirm when these settings are configured. Thank you!
